Marcy B. Freedman will demonstrate the various ways in which she has combined her dual passions for art and art history by presenting an exhibition, a window installation, and an interactive performance at The Flatz, 1008 Main Street. The exhibition and installation will be on view from January 5 through January 31, 2016, and the performance will take place on Saturday, January 9 from noon to 4pm.
Freedman is a visual and performance artist with two master’s degrees in the history of art, and much of her artistic output reflects her academic background. For example, the exhibition inside of The Flatz will include collages that boldly appropriate famous paintings by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Picasso. There will also be drawings and digital prints that reference art history in humorous ways.
For the window installation, Freedman has created a new body of work in which images from the history of art are accompanied by provocative questions – intended to arouse the curiosity of people on the street. Her interactive performance, which she describes as “personalized, customized art history lessons,” will allow members of the public to confront the artist with questions they may have about the window installation or about other areas of art history.
All parts of “Mixing Art & Art History” are free and open to the public.
